When an old bike is more than just transport, its resale price becomes a reflection of memories

08 Jan 2026

T hat motorcycle hadn't been ridden in a long time.

It sat quietly in the corner of the veranda, its rearview mirrors occasionally brushed by passersby, its floorboard sometimes covered by fallen leaves. The engine could still start, and its appearance wasn't too bad; it just hadn't been the protagonist of his daily life for quite a while.

To him, that bike was never just a mode of transport.

It had carried him to the interview for his first job and accompanied him late at night on the ride back from a friend’s house through empty streets. The city was noisy back then, but those times were simple. As soon as he put on his helmet and twisted the throttle, the day's emotions seemed to vanish into the wind behind him.

Then, life slowly changed.

Work became stable, his family became the new focus, and the motorcycle's role quietly receded into the background. It was still there, just no longer a daily presence.

What truly made him confront the reality of the bike was finding a stack of old photos while tidying up the house.

In the photos, he looked much younger than he did now, laughing without a care. That motorcycle was right there beside him, parked on the roadside, at the alley entrance, or in places whose names he could no longer recall.

He suddenly realized that his judgment of the bike's value had long ceased to be a matter of logic.

A friend asked him, "Your bike should still be worth something, right?" He found himself unable to give an immediate answer.

It wasn't that he didn't know how used motorcycle prices were calculated; it was that he didn't know how to translate years of companionship into a single number.

He gradually began to understand that the price of a used motorcycle isn't a denial of memories—it's a preparation for the next user's journey.

Condition Assessment

Year, mileage, and condition are objective factors

Market Trends

A fair price reflects the vehicle's market position

Emotional Value

Memories are priceless, but they also need a place to rest

Condition, year, mileage—these criteria didn't erase the past; instead, they helped find a reasonable place for those memories to reside.

The price isn't there to measure the emotion, but to allow the emotion to be gently set down.

Some things are enough simply as memories; the rest, let it be handed over to the market to continue its flow.
